BML - Olá pessoal, como vocês estão?
Mingmen - Oi Mari, nós estamos bem, obrigado! É o início do inverno aqui na Europa! Muito frio!BML - Como aconteceu a formação da banda?
Mingmen - A banda começou em 2002, fundou com Yann, um guitarrista que deixou a banda em 2010 por motivos personnal. Ele morreu em abril de 2012, que descanse em paz.
Como muitas bandas, que precisava de algum tempo e experiência para encontrar as pessoas certas nós também passamos por isso. Depois do nosso primeiro álbum "UNDERCONTROL" em 2006 tivemos que mudar músicos ea primeira que veio foi JG (guitarra), com quem começou a compor diretamente música nova.
Como fizemos algumas pré-produções veio Dem para acompanhar as partes de bateria no estúdio e, quando começamos a fazer shows novamente, Etienne chegou e ele também gravou as faixas de graves sobre o resto do nosso álbum "Back to the Ground" de 2009.
Assim, o Mingmen real do line-up é:
Sway (vocal e guitarra) JG (Guitarra) Etienne (Bass) Dem (Drum).
BML - Qual a influência mais presente na banda? E qual a de cada um?
Mingmen - Há um monte de bandas, compositores que nós amamos, mas eu não sei se eles diretamente influenciado a nossa música. Estamos tentando criar o nosso próprio som e não copiar outras bandas ou um estilo típico de tocar ou a cantar.
É claro, não inventamos um novo estilo de música, mas é difícil dizer qual a banda que tem a maior influência sobre o que compor e tocar hoje, porque a nossa música está sempre evoluindo.
Tenho certeza de que todo mundo pode ouvir ou reconhecer algo familiar em canções cada banda, então aqui estão algumas bandas que gostamos:Eu (Sway) realmente curto em ACDC, System of a Down (eu acho que todos nós amamos!), Alter Bridge, Seether, Staind ... e eu descobri a música com Janis Joplin, Cat Sevens ... Eu gosto de compositores como «The White Buffalo », Everlast e que é uma mistura de Hip Hop e Blues ... dois tipo de música que eu também ouvir.
JG é um grande fã de Iron Maiden e Metallica e heavy metal em geral! O que ele gosta mais é listenning para guitarristas. Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Richie Kotzen, Andy Timmons e Scott Henderson são aqueles tipo de gente, entre muitos outros. Ele também toca em projetos de jazz, nós realmente não entendemos ... LOL!
Etienne é um grande fã do Metallica, ele toca todas as músicas no baixo ou guitarra e ele também curte In Flames e Stone Sour.
E para Dem, é tudo sobre Tool.
BML - Existe uma única pessoa que componha as músicas, ou toda a banda compõe um pouco?
Mingmen - Temos um tem diferentes formas de compor dependendo das canções! Para o próximo álbum, nós fizemos assim:
Na maioria das vezes JG e eu tenho uma idéia de música como principal: o riff, o versículo, o coro e a linha vocal. Eu escrevo as letras e depois chegamos ao local de ensaio com este projeto música inteira que pre-produzimos em casa no Digital Performer.A atmosfera que queremos é sempre muito claro em nossas mentes. Então, primeiro, iniciamos com Etienne e Dem para aprender as linhas, ritmos e as mudanças de acordes que trouxemos e depois trabalhamos juntos no finetunning do acordo. Etienne e Dem adicionar o seu padrão de ritmo próprio e linhas de baixo, se necessário e como estamos tocando a música que nos perguntar o tipo de perguntas como: «os versos poderia ser mais curto ou mais longo», «como podemos desenvolver a intensidade» «é que o bom humor que imaginávamos quando escrevo », etc ....
Todo mundo é livre para dar sua opinião e propor algo mais, que estamos tentando cada idéia, gravar e depois ouvir as músicas juntos, e ele sempre é claro o que é bom e o que não é musicalmente! Às vezes, precisamos esquecer a música e ouvi-la algumas semanas depois para confirmar a nossa opinião sobre ele. É um processo longo, mas quando terminamos uma música é que ficamos realmente orgulhosos dela!
BML - De todos os show que vocês fizeram, qual foi o melhor?
Mingmen - Você sabe, cada show é diferente e é muito difícil falar de um em particular.
Nós realmente nos divertimos muito, quando estamos conectando um ao outro durante o show, quando estamos realmente na música, quando não tem mais nada o que pensar, resta apenas o momento presente.
É a situação em que podemos dar e receber mais da multidão, damos-lhes a nossa energia e enviá-lo de volta para nós: é o melhor show!
BML - Durante os shows, qual é a sensação que o público passa para vocês?
Mingmen - Como eu escrevi acima, nós amamos quando podemos ter uma conexão com o público, quando eles estão 100% conosco e nós com eles.Primeiro de tudo o que está tocando, porque nós a amamos, mas é sempre uma sensação extraordinária, quando você vê que pode tocar as pessoas com sua música.
O melhor exemplo, é quando tocamos para as pessoas que nunca ouviram a banda antes e descobrir a Mingmen durante um show. Se eles mostram o seu interesse e se eles nos ouvir do começo ao fim, estamos muito felizes, porque isso significa que a magia funcionou! É também uma grande sensação quando depois de mostrar às pessoas vir a sair com a gente, dizer algo sobre o concerto ou comprar algum do cd!
BML - No Brasil, as bandas do gênero do rock e do metal encontram dificuldades de se apresentar e de divulgar suas músicas e a si próprios. Vocês passaram por esta situação alguma vez?
Mingmen - Eu acho que é a mesma coisa em todos os lugares, música Metal é um tipo de música, o que nunca foi mainstream, mas os fãs que ouvem a ele são reais «Fãs de música». Eles não gostam porque é na TV ou no rádio ou porque todo mundo adora, que tem sua própria opinião e graças a eles Rock e Metal Music ainda estão vivos e será, espero, para sempre!
Mas sim, é difícil promover uma banda de Metal, é difícil encontrar clubes para tocar, e há um monte de bandas lá fora. Tanto quanto nós não vendeu milhões de álbuns que estamos todos na mesma situação, mas em diferentes níveis de popularidade!
BML - Qual é a percepção que vocês tem do Brasil?
Mingmen - O Brasil foi uma grande experiência para nós! Tivemos um período de três semanas de assistência no país no ano passado! Começamos com dois shows no Rio e em seguida fomos para Salvador, Natal, Fortaleza e depois para São Paulo e volta ao Rio! Ele foi incrível!
Os brasileiros são tão agradáveis e têm um país tão bonito! Era como uma grande aventura, fomos muito para alcançar os shows (uma vez a 48 horas de Teresina a São Paulo, o motorista só parou para beber café e fazer xixi!) Para que pudéssemos ver a imensidão do Brasil pelas janelas do nosso pequeno ônibus! O público foi incrível, as pessoas estão realmente vivendo, aproveitando os shows ... penso que eles são muito mais quente do que as multidões da Europa!
BML - Atualmente, como está a agenda de show da MingMen?
Mingmen - Não temos nenhum show programado pelo momento porque estamos trabalhando duro em nosso terceiro álbum de estúdio. Nós vamos gravar em janeiro, então vamos estar de volta no palco em 2013 com novo material e não podemos esperar por ele!
Percebendo um cd é tão emocionante, é o resultado de muito trabalho e evolução pessoal, este promete ser grande!

MingMen - Hi Mari, we're fine, thank you !! It’s the begining of winter here in Europe !! Very cold !!
BML- How did the band's lineup?
MingMen - The band began in 2002, I founded it with Yann, a guitar player who left the band during 2010 for personnal reasons. He died in april 2012, may he rest in peace.
As many bands, we needed some time and experience to find the right people. After our first album “UNDERCONTROL” in 2006 we had to change musicians and the first who came was JG (guitar) with whom we directly started to compose new music.
As we did some pre-production came Dem to track the drum parts in the studio and when we started to play gigs again, Etienne came and he also recorded the bass tracks on the rest of our album “Back to the Ground” 2009.
So the actual MINGMEN’s Line-up is:

BML - What is the most influence on this band? And what of each?
MingMen - There's a lot of bands, songwriters that we love but I don't know if they've directly influenced our music. We are trying to create our own personnal sound and not to copy other bands or a typical style of playing or singing. Of course, we did not invented a new style of music, but it's hard to say which band has the most influence on what we compose and play today because our music is always evolving.
When we're composing we're just thinking about the songs, what could be the best arrangement for it, which atmosphere, and try to make something special and try to always surprise ourselves.
I’m sure that everybody can hear or recognize something familiar in every band’s songs, so here are some bands that we like as indivuduals :
I (Sway) really dig on ACDC, System of a Down (I think we all love them !!), Alter Bridge, Seether, Staind… and I discovered music with Janis Joplin, Cat Sevens… I like songwriters like « The White Buffalo », and Everlast which is a mix of Hip Hop and Blues …two kind of music that I also listen to.
JG is a huge Iron Maiden and Metallica fan and heavy metal in general !! What he likes the most is listenning to guitar players. Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Richie Kotzen, Andy Timmons and Scott Henderson are those kind of guys among a lot of others. He also plays in many jazz projects, we don’t really understand … LOL !!
Etienne is a big fan of Metallica, he can play all the songs on bass or guitar and he also digs on In Flames and Stone Sour.
And for Dem, it's all about Tool.
BML - Is there a single person who composes the songs, or the whole band composes a bit?
MingMen - We a have different ways to compose depending on the songs !! For the upcoming album we did like this :
Most of the time JG and I got a main song idea like : the riff, the verse, the chorus and the vocal line. I write the lyrics and then we come to the rehearsal place with this whole song project that we preproduced at home on Digital Performer.
The atmosphere we want is always very clear in our minds. So first, Etienne and Dem start to learn the lines, rythms and the chord changes we brought and then we work together on the finetunning of the arrangement. Etienne and Dem add their own rhythm pattern and bass lines if needed and as we're playing the song we ask ourselves the kind of questions like : « could the verses be shorter or longer», « how could we develop the intensity » « is that the right mood we imagined when composing », etc….
Everybody is free to give his opinion and to propose something else, we're trying every idea, record it and after we listen to the songs together and it's always clear what is good and what is not musically !! Sometimes we need to forget the song and listen to it a few weeks after to confirm our opinion on it. It is a long process but when we finish a song we are really proud of it !
BML - Of all the shows you did, which was the best ?
MingMen - You know, every show is different and it's very hard to mention one in particular.
We really have a lot of fun when we're connecting to each other while playing, when we're really into the Music, when we don't think about anything else than just the present moment.
It is the situation when we can give and receive the most from the crowd, we give them our energy and they send it back to us: that's the Best Show !!
BML - During the shows, which is the feeling that the public is for you?
MingMen - As I wrote it above, we love when we can have a connection with the audience, when they are 100% with us and us with them.
First of all we're playing music because we love it, but it's always an extraordinary feeling when you see that you can touch people with your music.
The best exemple of that is when we play for people that never heard our band before and discover MINGMEN during a gig. If they show their interest and if they listen to us from beginning to the end, we are so happy because it means that the magic worked ! It’s also a great feeling when after a show people come along to hang out with us, say something about the concert or buy some cd’s !
BML - In Brazil, the bands of the genre of rock and metal are difficult to perform and promote their songs and themselves. You've gone through this situation before ?
MingMen - I think it's the same thing everywhere, Metal Music is a kind o music that has never been mainstream but the Fans that listen to it are real « Music Fans ». They don't like it because it's on the TV or Radio or because everyone else loves it, they got their own opinion and thanks to them Rock and Metal Music are still alive and will be, hopefully, forever !!
But yes, it's hard to promote a Metal band, it's hard to find clubs to play, and there's a lot of bands out there. As far as we have not sold millions of albums we're all in the same situation but at different levels of popularity !!
BML - What is the perception you have from Brazil ?
MingMen - The Brazil was a great experience for us ! We had a three weeks tour in your country last year ! We started with two shows in Rio and then we drove to Salvador, Natal, Fortaleza and then to Sao Paolo and back to Rio ! It was amazing !
Brazilians are so nice and you guys have a so beautiful country !! It was like a big adventure, we drove a lot to reach the gigs (once 48 hours from Teresina to Sao Paolo, the Driver only stopped to drink coffee and pee !) so we could see the immensity of Brazil by the windows of our small bus !! The audience was amazing, people are really living, enjoying the shows…much warmer than the Europeans crowds are I think !!BML - Currently, as is the show schedule of you?
MingMen - We don't have any show scheduled by the moment because we' re working hard on our 3rd studio album. We gonna record it on January so we'll be back on stage on 2013 with brand new material and we can't wait for it !!
Realising a cd is so exciting, it is the result of so much work and personnal évolution, this one promises to be great !!
