Mari Lima: A banda foi criada quando e por quem?Ashentide: Tom veio com a idéia para a criação de uma banda completa de seu outro projeto metal sinfônico em 2008. Ele começou a fazer do sonho uma realidade quando ele contratou André como baixista no final de 2008, seguido por Anastasia em chaves de Janeiro de 2009. Este núcleo experimentou muitos guitarristas e vocalistas até meados de 2010, finalmente teve uma formação sólida, que incluiu a voz de sereia de Lenore. Nós gravamos o EP durante a Primavera de 2011, e logo após o lançamento do EP em Julho 2011, teve de substituir tanto o baixista e guitarrista. Isto é, quando descobrimos Rivers J. na guitarra, e Sir Bastian Rocha no baixo. Andrew, em seguida, mudou de tocar baixo para a guitarra, e agora nós estamos agitando mais do que nunca.
Mari Lima: Qual é a influência mais significativa musical da banda, outras bandas?
Ashentide: Para a maioria de nós se tivéssemos que escolher uma banda seria Nightwish, mas as influências de metal nossas variam muito. Tom favorece mulheres fronteados bandas sinfônicas como Epica. Andrew gosta de bandas de metal melódico, como In Flames. Anastasia goza de mais um som mais escuro metal como Moonspell. Como cantor, Lenore prefere o mais vocalmente-driven Within Temptation e Nightwish, enquanto Rivers J. e Sir compartilhar Bastian influências de thrash metal como Metallica e Megadeth.
Mari Lima: Anastasia, sabemos que você tem influências clássicas,influências que são os que inspiram na hora de escrever para Ashentide?
Ashentide: Anastasia: Sim, eu sou um pianista clássico treinado, com 9 anos de escola de música na Rússia, por isso mesmo que eu não ouvir música clássica em uma base diária, que teve uma enorme influência na minha escrita e estilo de jogo. Se eu tivesse que escolher alguns dos meus favoritos compositores clássicos, eu teria que ir com os românticos russos, como Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff e Prokofiev.
Mari Lima: O que se espera de você para o lançamento do primeiro CD?
Ashentide: Nosso primeiro CD é o EP Ashentide, e nós lançamos que para nos dar uma vantagem na cena antes de gravar o nosso álbum completo. Fazer um álbum de metal sinfônico cheio é uma produção enorme, e nós queríamos chegar lá e fazer alguns shows antes de gastar muito tempo no estúdio de gravação.
Mari Lima: Quando você configura a banda, não tinha idéia de onde os shows iria realizar?
Ashentide: Nós sempre tivemos uma meta de abrir localmente para uma big band europeia em um local importante na famosa Sunset Strip, em Hollywood, CA, e que ainda está na nossa agenda.
Mari Lima: Em geral, as músicas são compostas por quem?
Ashentide: Até à data, Tom, Anastasia, e Andrew partes aproximadamente a mesma quantidade dos deveres de composição, mas às vezes nós escrevemos como uma banda completa também. Na maioria das vezes, individualmente, escrever rascunhos de canções e depois compartilhá-las com a banda para que cada pessoa pode adicionar seu próprio talento e elegância. Lenore escreve a maioria das letras e melodias vocais, mas depende da música.
Mari Lima: As letras são tranquilos e românticos, há alguma inspiração de um de vocês na banda?
Ashentide: Felizmente, as letras do Purgatório não são algo que qualquer um encontra muito calmo e romântico. Mas, falando sério, a escrita lírica é um processo totalmente diferente para todos, e muitas vezes muito difícil de descrever. Lenore, muitas vezes, tem que deixar as músicas afundar por um tempo antes de encontrar a história certa para combinar com a música. Nós, como muitas bandas de metal, muitas vezes são atraídos para o drama da mitologia e da batalha, e isso se reflete em muitas de nossas canções. Mas essas histórias muitas vezes são fortemente influenciados pelos nossos sentimentos e experiências, que esperamos que dá o toque romântico, sincero de nossa música.
Mari Lima: O que é Ashentide?
Ashentide: O nome "Ashentide" veio de um conceito Sci-Fi/Fantasy de uma onda de maré negra com um profundo significado oculto, que se tornará mais evidente quando nós liberamos nossas biografias de membros da banda. Por enquanto, o verdadeiro significado é segredo ...
Mari Lima: Após o lançamento do CD, quero fazer shows?Existe algum planejado para o Brasil?
Ashentide: Absolutamente! Depois do nosso álbum de estréia é para fora que planeja fazer toneladas de shows, e talvez até mesmo uma turnê. Ele iria balançar para vir ao Brasil em apoio dos nossos fãs de lá, e nós também adoraria fazer uma viagem pela Europa. Esperemos que uma etiqueta de metal vai nos pegar depois de lançar o álbum completo, e ajudar a tornar esse sonho realidade.

Mari Lima: The band was created when and by whom?
Ashentide: Tom came
up with the idea for creating a full band from his other symphonic metal
project in 2008. He started making the dream a reality when he hired Andrew as
bassist in late 2008, followed by Anastasia on keys January 2009. This core
group tried out many guitarists, and vocalists until mid-2010 we finally had a
solid lineup that included the siren voice of Lenore. We recorded the EP over
the spring of 2011, and soon after release of the EP on July 2011 we had to
replace both bassist and rhythm guitarist. This is when we discovered J. Rivers
on guitar, and Sir Bastian Rock on bass. Andrew then switched from playing bass
to guitar, and now we’re rockin’ harder than ever.
Mari Lima: What is the most
significant musical influence in the band, other bands?
Ashentide: For the
majority of us if we had to choose one band it would be Nightwish, but our
metal influences vary wildly. Tom favors female fronted symphonic bands like
Epica. Andrew likes melodic metal bands like In Flames. Anastasia enjoys more a
darker metal sound like Moonspell. As a singer, Lenore prefers the more
vocally-driven Within Temptation and Nightwish, while J. Rivers and Sir
Bastian share thrash metal influences like Metallica & Megadeth.
Mari Lima: Anastasia, we know you
have classical influences,
influences that are the ones
that inspire you at the time of writing for Ashentide?
Ashentide: Anastasia:
Yes, I am a classically-trained piano player, with 9 years of music school in
Russia, so even though I don't listen to classical music on a daily basis, it
has had a huge influence on my writing and playing style. If I had to pick some
of my favorite classical composers, I would have to go with the Russian
romantics, like Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Prokofiev.
Mari Lima: What is expected of you to the launch of the first CD?
Ashentide: Our
first CD is the Ashentide EP, and we released that to give us a head start in
the scene before recording our full album. Doing a full symphonic metal album
is a huge production, and we wanted to get out there and do some live shows
before spending lots of time in the studio recording.
Mari Lima: When you set up the band, had no idea where the shows would perform?
Ashentide: We
always had a goal of opening locally for a big European band at a major venue
on the famous Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA, and that is still on our agenda.
Mari Lima: Generally the songs are composed by whom?
Ashentide: To date,
Tom, Anastasia, and Andrew share about the same amount of the songwriting
duties but sometimes we write as a full band too. Most of the time we
individually write rough drafts of songs and then share them with the band so
that each person can add their own talent and flair. Lenore writes most of the
lyrics and vocal melodies, but it depends on the song.
Mari Lima: The lyrics are quiet and romantic, there is some inspiration from one of you in the band?
Ashentide: Hopefully,
the lyrics of Purgatory aren't something anyone finds too quiet and romantic.
But seriously, lyric writing is a totally different process for everyone, and
often pretty hard to describe. Lenore will often have to let the songs sink in
for a while before finding the right story to match the music. We, like many
metal bands, are often drawn to the drama of mythology and battle, and this is
reflected in many of our songs. But these stories are often heavily
influenced by our feelings and experiences, that we hope adds the romantic,
sincere touch to our music.
Mari Lima: What is Ashentide?
Ashentide: The name
“Ashentide” came from a sci-fi/fantasy concept of a black tidal wave with a
deep hidden meaning which will become more apparent when we release our band
member biographies. For now, the true meaning is secret ...
Mari Lima: After the release of the CD, want to do shows? Are there any planned for Brazil?
Ashentide: Absolutely! After
our debut album is out we plan on doing tons of shows, and maybe even a tour.
It would definitely rock to come to Brazil in support of our fans there, and we
would also love to make a trip through Europe. Hopefully a metal label will
pick us up after we release the full album, and help make that dream come true.
